Head of Legal & Compliance – Insurance

About the Role

Our client is a leading international health insurance provider with a strong footprint across global markets. As part of its continued expansion, the company is seeking a Head of Legal & Compliance to oversee all legal, regulatory, and compliance-related activities.

Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will head a team of three professionals and play a strategic role in shaping the organisation’s legal and ethical framework. Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Advisory Leadership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on corporate governance matters.

  • Provide high-quality legal and compliance advice to the executive committee.

  • Identify and proactively resolve obstacles to support the company’s business objectives.

  • Ensure the organisation upholds the highest standards of legal and ethical conduct.

Compliance Oversight

  • Lead and supervise the compliance function, ensuring the team remains up to date with regulatory developments.

  • Ensure effective implementation of all legal and compliance requirements (e.g., IDD, GDPR).

  • Establish a robust and sustainable compliance framework fostering cross-department alignment.

International Legal & Regulatory Management

  • Advise on global regulatory requirements impacting core business activities.

  • Conduct legal research on international compliance topics (licensing, non-admitted business, regulatory obligations).

  • Manage interactions with international authorities and regulatory bodies.

Contractual & Operational Support

  • Provide legal and compliance support to internal stakeholders across departments.

  • Prepare and negotiate contractual agreements (partnerships, reinsurance, service agreements, claims review, etc.).

  • Support product development by reviewing insurance contracts, T&Cs, and related documentation.


Profile & Requirements

Background & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Law (or equivalent, e.g., LLM).

  • 7–10 years of experience as a lawyer or compliance officer, including proven leadership in an international environment.

  • Strong expertise in the insurance sector is essential.

  • Excellent understanding of Luxembourg’s legal and regulatory environment.

  • Solid knowledge of international legal systems and contract management.

  • Experience working within a matrix structure in a multinational group.

Skills & Personal Qualities

  • Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.

  • Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.

  • Dynamic, resilient, and motivated, with a strong ability to operate in a multicultural environment.

  • Excellent command of English (spoken and written).

  • Knowledge of German and French is a strong asset.
